The Statesville City Council voted 6-1 Tuesday night to approve a $45 million downtown revitalization plan that will transform several blocks along South Center Street with new streetscaping, mixed-use development, and public gathering spaces.
The plan, developed over 18 months with extensive community input, calls for widened sidewalks, decorative lighting, underground utility lines, and a new civic plaza near the historic courthouse. Two vacant buildings on Broad Street will be converted into a boutique hotel and restaurant complex.
“Downtown Statesville has incredible bones,” said City Manager Rachel Drummond. “This investment will honor our heritage while creating a destination that draws visitors and new residents alike.”
Construction on the first phase is expected to begin this fall, with completion targeted for late 2028. The project is funded through a combination of municipal bonds, state grants, and private investment commitments.
